The meeting lasted for 25 minutes and was held by Malaysia’s International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz and Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil and SpaceX Director of Operations Lauren Dreyer.

Mr Anwar stated that he was pleased with the decision of Tesla to expand its operations in Malaysia and also expressed that the government was in support of that opening Tesla headquarters in Selangor.

The premier added to the statement that Malaysia continues to increase its efforts to achieve zero net emissions in 2050.

“Malaysia continues to bolster its commitment to the concept of carbon emissions that are net zero or “net-zero emissions” by 2050.

“Malaysia has a plan and a comprehensive ecosystem, as well as competitive resources in supporting the clean energy industry including electric mobility,” said Mr Anwar.

The two discussed also the possibility of taking part of SpaceX in offering services such as the Starlink satellite-based service for Malaysia.

Mr. Anwar claimed that this will aid in faster and more extensive internet access, especially in rural areas, as it only required a minimal infrastructure and land to boost the internet’s global network.

Starlink can be described as an satellite constellation system that seeks to offer the internet to all over the world.

“This initiative will increase the ability and well-being of the people, especially from the aspect of education and the potential of agricultural technology and income generation,” declared Mr. Anwar.

Tengku Zafrul has on the 10th of July stated that the partnership among Malaysia and Tesla wasn’t limited to Tesla’s electric-car (EV) sector by itself and other areas as well.

Tesla will be officially launched in Malaysia on the 20th of July.

In the past, Tesla had said in a tweet that its Model Y vehicle was now available for purchase in Malaysia which is the first model in the country.

The company said the first car delivery is likely to occur in the beginning of next year, and would cost the RM199,000 (US$44,000).

This month, Tesla hosted a walk-in hiring day held in Cyberjaya, Selangor for several jobs.
